Beware building inspectors. part 3

My expert Nicholas came across this one couple of weeks ago. A pre purchase report on a property, carried out by one of the other inspectors . It’s not even a report, it’s a one page invoice/pretend report for $ 500

Firstly I can tell you that there is no chance in hell that this inspector has professional indemnity insurance. This is because I know that our reports, prepared on format given to us by our insurer are over 30 pages.

Anything else about his report is below any meaningful criticism.

A check of the web site confirms that there are no qualifications other than claims of being experienced builder. This in itself means nothing because when registration of builders became mandatory, all existing practitioners were grandfathered into the system, regardless of competence or lack of it.

Secondly the report was completely wrong in it’s substance and the prospective buyer was unnecessarily scared off, wasting time and money.

Why is this happening? Because private inspection industry is unregulated and there is nothing stopping latest boat arrival setting up as private building inspector or someone with the biggest achievement of their life, running a chook raffle , doing the same.

Beware of cheap price, Beware or you may regret it!
